New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival 2021: Top musicians from Louisiana and around the country gather in New Orleans for the world’s best music festival. The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is an annual celebration of the music and culture of New Orleans and Louisiana. It is held at the New Orleans Fair Grounds each year. Every year a new  poster is selected to be the official poster commemorating that  year’s event.

New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival 2021

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is a ritual of spring for hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana and many other countries throughout the United States. It is arguably the largest and best multi-genre music festival in the world. The big event takes place over two weekends — always the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May. It includes a full day of performances on twelve stages strategically arranged around the Fair Grounds racetrack, and with it scores of nightly shows at New Orleans music venues.

While the festival is named after the original music of New Orleans, and top contemporary jazz artists attend here, it’s hard to think of a musical genre that isn’t well represented at Jazz Fest. You can count on finding many of Louisiana’s most famous artists, representing the best in Cajun, Zedeco, Blues and Delta Blues, Rock, Rockabilly, Angel, Hip Hop, Salsa, Swamp Pop and more. It’s the place to hear and see the great names of Louisiana music, often among many others: Harry Connick Jr.; Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue; man’s companion; meter; Aaron Neville d. John. Paige Fredia.

Check out our five Jazz Fest must-dos:

  • Music: While the main stages are always a big draw for visiting a cultural exchange pavilion, a world tour is always a good idea. Throughout the eight days, the pavilion features amazing bands playing music from all over the world.
  • The Food: Local restaurants serve a full range of Louisiana dishes, but two of the must-sees are lobster bread and lobster monica. Don’t worry, there are plenty of vegetarian options too. And be sure to wash it down with fresh lemon juice!
  • Local Day: The first Thursday in May is a local day and not to be missed. If you’re lucky enough to live in the state and present ID to prove it, you qualify for a reduced admission ticket and enjoy much lighter crowds.
  • Shopping: There are three markets within the Jazz Festival that feature mostly produce and arts made in Louisiana. Want to make the commemorative poster a staple of the era? You can find it here, as well as find the Congo Square poster.
  • Pack: While those days are full of fun and great music, they can also be long, so be sure to bring sunscreen, a hat, and a foldable chair. You can also bring a small, soft-sided cooler filled with bottled water.

Jazz Fest is a great event for people of all ages, strollers are allowed (no wagons) and there’s a kid’s tent featuring kid-friendly acts every day.

Jazz and Heritage Festival

As a result of the current exponential growth of new COVID cases in New Orleans and the region, and the ongoing public health emergency, we are saddened that the 2021 edition of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, presented by Shell, is scheduled to take place in October. 8-17, 2021, won’t go as planned. Now we are looking forward to next spring, when we will present the festival in its traditional timeframe. The dates for next year are April 29 – May 8, 2022.

Ticket holders (including those holding their tickets from 2020 onwards) for both festival weekends will receive an email this week with details about ticket refunds and the migration process. All tickets for Wednesday, October 13th will be automatically redeemed.

In the meantime, we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols set by the public health authorities, so that we can all enjoy the Jazz Festival soon.
