April 20 was a big day in the iPad’s short history. At the Spring Loaded event, Apple unveiled the new iPad Pro that comes with the all-new M1 processor. The new iPad Pro comes in two screen sizes – 11-inch and 12.9-inch and work with the Magic Keyboard. A report from 9to5Mac, however, notes that the new generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro may not work with older Magic keyboards. The report cites iGeneration, a French online publication, as its primary source.

The new iPad Pro is about 0.5 mm thick and the report states, “The problem is, once shut down, the Magic Keyboard makes the tablet very cramped. Apple has not missed a millimeter of the levee, as the accessory must hold the iPad in place and prevent it from falling under a bag or, worse, on asphalt if you move the set without other protection. But with that extra half a millimeter on the 2021 generation, perhaps this very precise fit is a problem and the device had to be redesigned. “

Apple on its website, however, makes it clear that the new Magic Keyboard is compatible with the previous generation iPad Pro.

The 9to5Mac report states that “according to the documentation provided to Apple stores that we are able to consult, the older Magic Keyboard 2021 is not compatible with the larger iPad pros.” The new iPad Pro is thicker due to the new Liquid Retina XDR display that uses mini-LED technology.

Meanwhile, the issue is not applicable to the 11-inch iPad Pro as it has the same dimensions as the previous generation model.

The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts at Rs 99,900 and the Magic Keyboard costs Rs 31,900. On the other hand, the 11-inch model starts at Rs 71,900.
