Sky Broadband Outages UK
Problems are caused by errors in the Domain Name System, or DNS, something like a phone book for the Internet. It looks like Sky Internet users are sending their requests the wrong way, preventing them from working — and affecting everything from many of the country’s biggest banking apps to eBay.
Problems can appear like any other outage, with websites failing to load or showing error messages. Several users complained about the issues on Twitter, with Sky saying it was investigating the issues.
“We are aware of the issue and our team is currently investigating,” said one user, who complained about a “significant outage.”
Some DNS issues can be fixed by using a different service, such as the one provided by Google. But the nature of the outage appears to mean that the fix – which will often work at times when the broadband provider is not displaying sites correctly – is unlikely to work.
