Google has updated its YouTube app to iOS. This is the company’s first update to a major Google iOS application since December. It was speculated that Google updates delayed or halted updates to its major iOS apps to avoid Apple’s stricter privacy policies. However, Google has stated that this was not the case.
YouTube app update
According to 9to5Google, YouTube app last update to iOS was on December 7. The latest update was to begin on 13 February. The release note is not very high.
“Fixed bugs, better performance, drink too much coffee,” the update says, bringing the version to 15.49.6.
The report stated that Google updated its YouTube apps (Music, YV and Studio) in early February to conform to Apple’s new privacy policies.
Apple’s Privacy Policies
All App Store applications are required to display this privacy information. This applies to all major Apple platforms including iPhones, iPads, macOS, watchOS and TVOS. Even Apple’s own apps are required to show labels.
Facebook was one of the first companies to object to Apple’s new privacy label. The company said Apple’s privacy update may limit its ad targeting capabilities.
In a rare speech at Apple, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the iPhone maker was fast becoming a competitor. Zuckerberg also pointed out that Apple has used the platform for “every incentive” to explain how rival apps work.
“Apple may say they are doing this to help people, but the moves clearly track their competitive interests,” Zuckerberg said during a call from investors recently.
Prior to Zuckerberg’s comments, Facebook published full-page newspaper advertisements to attack Apple’s iOS update.
Meanwhile, Apple has ensured that the privacy label is meant to give users more control over their data.
Google updates has provided a bug fix to its iOS YouTube app, the first update to the major Google iOS app since the December 9to5Google report. While there is speculation that Apple’s attempt to evade the new privacy label is due to a lack of updates to iOS versions of Gmail, Docs, Search and Photos, Google has categorically denied that was the case. The company said in a January 12th blog post that it will add labels to its apps when updates are available:
As soon as Google’s iOS apps are updated with new features or to fix bugs, you’ll see an update in our app page listing that includes new app privacy details. These labels represent the maximum ranges of data that can be collected – if you use every available feature and service in the app. The data you provide to Google products provides helpful services for you, and you can always control your privacy settings by visiting your Google account or visiting the Google products you use on iOS.
Apple requires companies to implement a privacy label, which they launched on December 14, before they can update existing iOS apps. For example, some of Google’s other apps — Stadia, Authenticator, Translate and Classroom — have already received iOS updates.
We’ve reached out to Google updates to find out if updates for iOS versions of Gmail, Search, Docs and Photos are forthcoming, and will report back if we learn more.
Most of Google’s apps have not yet been updated since the requirement went into effect, even though Google said in early January that it would add privacy data for its apps within the next week or so.
Whats Google updates for ios
Google actually added privacy information for the YouTube app before today’s update, as did Apple Terminal earlier this month. Still, it is notable that the app has seen its first update since December 7, as Google has typically pushed updates for the YouTube app every week or two.
Many other major apps such as Google, Google Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps and Google Meat are still not updated and privacy information is not displayed on their App Store listings. Google-owned Waze finally updated its iOS app a few days ago to add privacy information as required by Apple.
Google updates has refused to roll back iOS application updates for delays in revealing its privacy practices, but many users have found it difficult to consider slowing down app updates suddenly with Apple’s disclosure deadline And Google has continued to have updates for various Android apps.
Earlier this week, the Gmail iOS app also started displaying an “out of date” warning when trying to add a new account, even though no new version of the app is available and no one in the Gmail iOS app from December 1 Not updated .
