The new Volkswagen Virtus will be the company’s second offering under the India 2.0 project after the launch of Taigon last year

Volkswagen India has released a new teaser for the upcoming mid-size sedan ahead of its global unveiling scheduled for March 8, 2022. This new sedan, which will be called Virtus, will be the successor to the Vento that is set alongside the Polo out of production soon. Sales are scheduled to start from mid-May 2022 onwards.

The Volkswagen Virtus, called the “New World Car”, will be placed on the same platform as the MQB-A0-IN. This will be the fourth product from Skoda Auto Volkswagen to be placed on this platform after Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia.

The new Virtus will likely see proportions similar to the world-class Virtus. It measures 4482 mm in length, 1751 mm in width and 1.472 mm in height. This makes it 92mm longer, 52mm wider and 5mm higher than the current Vento while resting on a 2,651mm wheelbase, 98mm longer than the 2,553mm Vento.

According to a teaser shared by Volkswagen, the new Virtus will see LED headlights, LED L-shaped headlights and LED fog lights. You’ll get a large chrome grille, GT Line badging and chrome accents on the front bumper.

Blacked out B-pillars, shark fin antenna, contrast-colored ORVMS roof, and new alloy wheels are also part of its make-up. The new Virtus will also have a spacious air dam and a trunk-mounted number plate.

The interiors will see many amenities for the driver and passengers. You’ll get a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, a power sunroof, ventilated seats up front and a wireless charger.

Infotainment will be provided via a 10.0-inch touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Features will also include a fully digital instrument cluster, pole-mounted high-frequency tweeters while safety equipment will include a total of 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat holders, front and rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring system and cruise control, etc.

VW Virtus – Engine and Gearbox Options

The Volkswagen Virtus will be powered exclusively by turbocharged petrol engines. The 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder engine produces 115 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque. The GT Line will get a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with 148 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.

The engines are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 1.0-liter engine will also be equipped with a 6-speed torque converter automatic while the larger 1.5-liter unit will get a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The Volkswagen Virtus will compete with the likes of the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna in the mid-size sedan segment.
