The Vancouver Police Department said in a statement that the man, whose name has not been released, could not be revived by Vancouver Rescue Services and died on the spot.

Police said surveillance footage of the incident showed the man was paying for his meal at 5.30 am when he dropped his bank card on the ground. When he opened the door and went to collect the card, his parked car slammed between the car door and the restaurant’s skeleton piece.
Officials said he could not free himself from the car and ran over it.
“This is a very heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this man,” Vancouver Police Officer Tanya Wisenton said in a statement.
Vicentine told Edmonton City News that it was heartbreaking for McDonald’s employees who witnessed the incident.

“People are not used to seeing this kind of accident, especially at your workplace,” Vicentin said, adding that aggrieved services would be provided to the employees. “I think everyone’s shaken up.”
She also explained to 680 News that fatal car accidents usually involve more than one vehicle. In this case it was just the car of the deceased.
“The fact that there were no other vehicles … it just seems like a strange accident,” she said.
The Vancouver Police Department and the British Columbia Investigative Department are currently investigating the incident. Those who witnessed the accident or who captured it in dash cam footage while driving in the area are asked to contact investigators at 604-717-3012.
